Malawi National Association of the Deaf

Malawi National Association of the Deaf (MANAD) is a non-profit making association of the deaf people with more than 12000 members out of 400000 deaf and hard of hearing members across the country. MANAD was formed in 1992 and is registered under the Trustee Incorporation Act of  Malawi on 4th January 1996.

The formation of the association was necessitated to cater for the welfare and the interest of the deaf within the boundaries of Malawi. The association is affiliated to the World Federation of the Deaf (WFD) and the Federation of Disability Organizations (FEDOMA).  Read More

Promoting the Wellness of Deaf People

Advocacy

MANAD advocates that the right to sign language enables equality in all spheres of life. MANAD often advocates on many human rights of the deaf to break down barriers to make the world a more equal place for all deaf people.


Capacity Building

MANAD has 28 operational branches throughout the country. Increased membership Since its inception. District branches are led by trained Deaf personnel who act as resource person. Each district has 2 leaders who are supported by local committees.

Sign Language

MANAD have Sign Language Instructors in all District. These Instructors are mandated to conduct sign language training classes and sessions to the general public.
